Content Management Systems (C.M.S.)

By using a Content Management Systems (C.M.S.) in their web-site customers are able to add, delete and change the content of their web-site whenever they want. So, no matter where in the world they are they can update their web-site with a computer (with an internet connection) and a browser. They can dramatically reduce or even remove the need for the web-site creator to be re-hired to alter a particular page or the entire web-site.

For rapidweaver there are four main types of C.M.S.
  • Unify is a simple content editor that allows you to make changes right on the page in a browser.
  • WeaverFM designed by a team lead by Gregory Barchard
  • WeaverBox designed by a team lead by Gregory Barchard
  • WebYep by Objective Development
Used together WebYep and WeaverFM and weaverbox can create a very good and simple C.M.S. Unify can be used by itself.

Types Of Content Management Systems (C.M.S.)

Unify Description

Unify is a simple, easy to use content editor that allows you (the client) to make changes right on the page in a browser. The actual User interface of Unify looks more elegant than WebYeps. It is also cheap (at $16 per website).

It maintains your style while updating the pages. You can update:
  • text,
  • images and even
  • directly edit .html (if you are confident enough to have this option enabled).

It only takes seconds to install and there is no need for a second administration site.

WeaverFM is a simple, easy to use file management system. It has been designed by a team lead by Gregory Barchard. It uses the mollify Content Management System.

At the moment this C.M.S. does not have any web-page editing capabilities but it allows:
  • the creation/deletion and re-naming of directories and sub-directories.
  • the uploading/downloading/deleting and renaming of files.
  • the display of file statistics for each file (type, size, Date last accessed/modified/changed)
  • secure (ID/Password) login to upload files.

WebYep Licenses

WebYep is licensed per website and installed system. For each website you're using WebYep in, you need to purchase a license key. It is not relevant, whether the website is stored on its own server, the same server as other websites or in a subfolder of another website - for each website a separate license key is needed.

Single License € 29.00 (with White Label License Option € 89.00)

You can order a single WebYep license for one website. A WebYep license technically is bound to the hostname (e.g. www.company.com) the website is reachable under. So you need to know that name (and enter it in the shopping cart).

Important: Please make sure the hostname you're entering is really the name of the host the website is located at. If any kind of redirection is involved (via JavaScript, HTML Frameset or HTTP Redirect) and you access the website via a different URL than it is really located under, you must enter the actual storage location's hostname!

If your website can be reached via several names, they will (after verification) gladly send you free additional license keys for these "aliases" - just send them a short email with all aliases after ordering.

White Label License Option

If you want to present WebYep as your own product, you can do so by purchasing a WebYep license with White Label option. This will enable you to put your own logo in place of the WebYep logo and replace the product name "WebYep" with your own product name.

The new logo and product name will be shown in all WebYep editors and the online help pages. Of course you can also change all other graphical elements like buttons and CSS stiles.

More detailed purchase prices and license information can be found here.

WebYep Features

WebYep Features

Each WebYep page is made up of 4 main sections: Page Heading: A page heading can be added to the top of a page. Sidebar Menu: A simple sidebar menu can be easily added. Block Section: Each block has many additional features (as described below). Page Lock: A page lock icon is an icon that you click on to allow the editing of a page.

Block Sections:
Each of these blocks can contain the following features:
Block Heading: A 'block heading' can be added to each section of a page. Text: Text can be added in both normal Rich Text styled format as well as html. Images: Images and their captions can be placed in three positions (left, center and right). Image Galleries: Multiple image galleries can be added. Each image can have its own caption. File Attachments: Attach a file to the page (and add a description) so that it can be downloaded by a user.

Additionally block sections can be repeated as many times as you want on any page.

Text

Normal or HTML text can be easily added with the aid of a built in WYSIWYG word processor. Despite their small size these programs have all of the features needed for you to update your web pages. Currently there are two free types of text editors used with WebYep:

  • fckeditor Copyright (C) 2003-2008 Frederico Caldeira Knabben.
  • TinyMCE (used on this page) is a web based Javascript HTML WYSIWYG editor. It has the ability to convert HTML TEXTAREA fields or other HTML elements to editor instances. TinyMCE is very easy to integrate into Content Management Systems. There is more information on Wiki.

These programs are a:
  • free,
  • fast,
  • easy to learn,
  • and excellent

alternative to many of the current web-site editors around. If you need any help with them I will be glad to oblige.

Images

WebYep allows you to add images to your page. It creates thumbnails automatically. You can also add captions to the thumbnails. Clicking on thumbnails will load and show the original image. Images can also be displayed with additional effects such as "lightbox" (as used on this page) or "greybox".

Images and their captions can be placed in three positions (left, center and right). Or, if you know html you can add them anywhere you want.

Additionally images to be displayed using effects such as lightbox can be set up so that they display as sets of images. Clicking on an image will display its' caption (if any) as well as its' position in the set (for example: 2 of 5). The next/previous image can be easily displayed by clicking on the next/previous button. To close the images click on the "Close X" button or on the darkened part of the screen (but not the image).

Image Galleries

You can easily create image galleries like the one at the bottom of this screen. Before you upload your images you should tell me:

• The maximum width/height of the thumbnails
• How many thumbnails per row you want
• The maximum width/height of the image to be displayed (if your image is larger than this it will be automatically re-sized).
• Border colour and thickness

The maximum image display size has to be set prior to uploading the images as they cannot be re-sized once they have been upload to the web-site server. If you want your images to be resized then I can update the page for the new dimensions but you will have to upload the images again. I am sorry but there is nothing I can do about this.

Sidebar Menu

A Sidebar menu can be added if there is too much information to be displayed on a single page. This enables you to divide your page into sections and have an index of those sections displayed in the sidebar. To display the content of those sections you just select the item in the sidebar menu.

File Attachments

If you want to add files to your web-page so that people can download them then this can be easily done with WebYep. The files can be:
  • Pictures
  • Movies
  • Audio Files
  • Documents
  • Applications
  • Archives
You can add a description of what each file is as well. The maximum size of each attachment is 2mb.

Page Lock

A page lock is used to log into a page so that it can be altered. The icon can be placed anywhere on the page and be either visible or invisible. If the icon is invisible you have to remember where it is, move the cursor over the position and click on it when the cursor turns into a hand and log in.

WeaverFM Description

WeaverFM Description

What is weaverFM?
weaverfm icon
WeaverFM is a file manager designed by a team lead by Gregory Barchard. It enables you to host a file sharing page on your web-site. It is a two-way file sharing solution, enabling users to both upload and download files from your web server. Optionally, you can password protect your WeaverFM page to restrict access to selected users. WeaverFM is an excellent plugin for people looking to share files in a collaborative environment via the internet.

How does WeaverFM work?

WeaverFM has been designed by a team lead by Gregory Barchard. It was developed using the Mollify javascript application written using Google Web Toolkit. Mollify implements an AJAX file sharing module for users to manually build websites. The advantage with WeaverFM is that it all the configuration and uploading is done for you, so you can have a file sharing page ready in minutes!

System Requirements

WeaverFM requires a web server with support for PHP 5.2 or greater. Most web hosts support PHP 5.2, although some hosts like Apples MobileMe service (formally .Mac) does not. If your web server is running an older version of PHP, it is strongly recommended you contact your web host to discuss the feasibility of being upgraded. Most should do it free of charge on your behalf. It will ensure your site is secure and future-proof.

WeaverFM Features

WeaverFM Features

At the moment this File Management System does not have any web-page editing capabilities but it allows:
  • the creation/deletion and re-naming of directories and sub-directories.
  • the uploading/downloading/deleting and renaming of files.
  • the display of file statistics for each file (type, size, Date last accessed/modified/changed)
  • secure (ID/Password) login to upload files.

Security

Allowing people to upload files to your own web server carries some security risks. There is a danger of malicious files (viruses, trojans etc.) being transmitted between computers. There is also a risk of sensitive information being transmitting accidently in a non-secure fashion. WeaverFM tries to alleviate this in a couple of different ways.
  • Multi User Mode If possible use WeaverFM in multi user mode which will password protect the WeaverFM page and limit un-authorized access. Please note that this does not offer any form of advanced security. WeaverFM pages are still vulnerable to various forms of network intrusion attacks such as, but not limited to, man in the middle attacks.
  • Write Permissions By default, users are not allowed to upload. Write permissions are also configurable on a per-user basis.
  • .htaccess A .htaccess file is generated and placed in the files/ directory within the weaverFM project folder. The .htaccess file prevents access to the configuration.php file which contains sensitive information such as usernames and passwords.
  • Random Passwords When a user is added to weaverFM a unique, random 10 byte password is automatically assigned to them. You may change this if you wish, but it is highly recommended you don't use common words, phrases or names. It is also recommended that you use a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. Also, there is no limit on the length of these passwords. So the longer, the better.

WeaverFM is currently in development and the development team are attempting to add more features as soon as possible. Documentation can be found here.
